Outcomes for Schools
Outdoor Learning with Purpose
At Lindley Educational Trust, outdoor learning is about much more than completing adventurous activities.
We create purposeful experiences that help young people grow in confidence, develop essential skills, strengthen relationships and discover what they can achieve.
Whether pupils join us for a day or a residential, we work with schools to create programmes around the outcomes that matter to you – complementing the curriculum, reinforcing school values and connecting learning outdoors with developing life skills.

Confidence & Resilience
Challenge creates opportunities for young people to discover strengths they didn’t know they had. In a supportive environment, pupils can step beyond their comfort zone, overcome perceived barriers and experience genuine achievement.
They learn to persevere when things are difficult, respond positively to setbacks and approach unfamiliar situations with greater confidence.

Character & Independence
Residential experiences give young people opportunities to take responsibility for themselves and others.
Away from familiar routines, pupils make decisions, manage themselves, contribute to their group and take greater ownership of their actions.
These experiences help develop independence, personal responsibility and self-awareness – skills that transfer directly into school and everyday life.

Wellbeing & Engagement
Being active outdoors, connecting with nature and achieving something new can have a powerful impact on how young people feel about themselves.
Outdoor experiences provide space away from everyday pressures while creating opportunities for movement, connection and achievement.
Schools can also use programmes to support transition, engagement and renewed participation in school life.
Problem-Solving & Thinking Skills
Adventure doesn’t always go to plan – and that’s where some of the most valuable learning happens.
Navigating, solving team challenges and responding to changing situations require pupils to think, communicate, make decisions and adapt.
They discover that mistakes are part of learning and that progress often comes through creativity, reflection, perseverance and collaboration.

Aspiration & New Possibilities
For some young people, a visit to Hollowford opens up an entirely new world of experiences.
Exploring a cave, climbing a rock face, navigating through the Peak District or successfully leading a team can change how a young person sees themselves.
Experiencing success in an unfamiliar environment can raise aspirations and encourage young people to think differently about what they could achieve next.
Connection with Nature
The Peak District National Park provides an extraordinary classroom.
Immersive outdoor experiences encourage curiosity and help pupils develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural environment.
We want young people not only to enjoy the outdoors, but to develop a connection with it and recognise their role in protecting and sustaining their environment.

Supporting Your School Priorities
Every Lindley programme can be designed around your pupils and educational priorities. We regularly support schools with:
Personal development and character education
Transition between Key Stages
Behaviour, attendance and engagement
Wellbeing
PSHE, SMSC and citizenship
Teamwork, leadership and communication
Curriculum enrichment and outdoor learning
School values and behaviour expectations
Our instructors use structured reflection to help pupils recognise what they have learned and, importantly, consider how they can apply it back at school, at home and in their communities.
Experience → Learning → Reflection → Change
Our approach is informed by the principles of high-quality outdoor learning. The activity creates the experience, but it is skilled facilitation and reflection that help turn that experience into meaningful learning.
We measure success not simply by the activities pupils complete, but by what changes as a result – greater confidence, stronger relationships, increased independence, new skills and higher aspirations.
That’s when an outdoor experience becomes something much more powerful, learning that lasts.
